This resource is comprised of two parts the PowerPoint presentation The Day the Earth Caught Fire, which can be used in class with your students, and this document, which contains teachers' notes and activities to accompany the presentation.

The resource contains a synopsis, clips and stills from the film, discussion ideas, UK-wide cross-curricular links and a range of activities with supporting worksheets. The Real Time Tasks should

be completed under timed conditions to create a sense of urgency because they are designed to immerse the students in the world of the film. The guide times include the time that it will take to watch

the clip. You can display a timer on your board to help students work with pace.

The resource is linked to the three scientific areas of study - physics, chemistry and biology science departments may wish to initiate ‘collaborative teaching' on this project.

Updating our resources

We have developed a large catalogue of educational resources since launching in 2013, and some references and terminology will inevitably have dated as society and language evolves. We are aware of this and will be updating resources when our production schedule allows.

What our educators say

"Our SATs results this year were great, both progress and attainment in reading and writing have improved compared with last year, which we feel has been largely as a result of integrating the Into Film strategies."
