The US state of California grows nearly half the country’s fruits, nuts, and vegetables. Vast amounts of water and ingenuous irrigation systems are required in order to keep production going – but the natural rainfall and available groundwater were never suited for such demand. 'Water and Power: A California Heist' exposes the complex issues surrounding the right to access this source of life, which has become a valuable commodity. Through in-depth investigation and interviews with key stakeholders, the film reveals the alarming reality of water scarcity, corporate exploitation, and political corruption in the state. It delves into the history of water management in California, tracing the roots of the crisis to a combination of mismanagement, greed, and environmental degradation. But there is hope, as communities rally to expose the truth and change policy. This example can be taken as a warning for the rest of the world – it’s time to find sustainable solutions for our planet.
Scottish archive footage that reflects on the impact of fossil fuels and looks at alternatives to waste.
